SPECIAL PROCESSES

An important differentiator for Avior is our extensive in-house capabilities for special processes and our fully accredited aerospace testing labs that support our aerospace structures business. The following is a listing of the special processes we offer and the testing lab services we have to support our internal production requirements as well as offer directly to our clients.

WELDING

Our welding capability is Nadcap approved and we hold a variety of customer approvals from Class A to D welds. The welding operators are certified by our quality department and undergo annual training and re-certification. Our capabilities include both manual and automated welding processes.

The welding department is equipped with a centralized inert gas system, automatic welding station, ultrasonic cleaning, and etching tank as well as in-house FPI capabilities. The welded assemblies integrate internally fabricated sheet metal and machined details providing our customers a one-stop competitive solution for TIG welding of aluminum. This capability is supported by FPI and X-ray inspection and if required pressure testing.

The following are the different welding processes and materials that are certified to customers such as Boeing, Bombardier, and BellFlight.

Welding processes: spot welding, fusion IG/TIG, Class A, B, C &D

Welding materials: aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, inconel alloys

HEAT TREATMENT

HEAT TREATMENT

Avior provides an internal heat treatment capability that is dedicated to supporting our metal fabrication business. The solution heat treatment capability is able to accommodate parts up to 16 feet in length. The T6 annealing heat treatment ovens can accommodate parts up to 12 feet in length. The company holds approvals for the treatment of all aluminum alloys for Boeing, Bombardier, Airbus, BellFlight, Northrop Grumman.

Available heat treatments: aluminum, stress relief, solution heat treatment, precipitation heat treatment

CHEMICAL PROCESSING LINE

The chemical processing line includes both chemical conversion coating or Alodine and Boric Sulfuric anodizing. The process lines can accommodate parts that fit into our tanks’ size of 22 x 96 x 48 inches. The chemical line is maintained by our in-house laboratory which rigorously monitors the solution chemistries on a scheduled basis. Monthly performance tests of the coatings are carried out on-site through salt spray testing performed in a fog chamber.

The Alodine line is approved for processing Bell, Boeing Northrop Grumman, and Bombardier parts. The anodize line is approved for processing of Boeing and Bombardier parts.

FLUORESCENT PENETRANT INSPECTION (FPI)

The FPI inspection process line supports the welding, machining, and sheet metal fabrication product lines. The tanks can accommodate parts of 72 x 36 inches. The company employs two level II technicians to support the fluorescent penetration inspection line.

The fluorescent inspection line is certified by Nadcap and to the specifications of the following aircraft manufacturers:

  • Boeing
  • Bombardier

  • BellFlight

  • Northrop Grumman

PAINTING

Avior provides in-house capabilities for painting both metal and composite details. We operate four paint booths and employ certified painters. The largest paint booth is 16 feet x 27 feet. and we can support a variety of different primers and top coats. We hold paint approvals for Boeing, Bombardier, BellFlight, and Northrop Grumman.

METAL TO METAL BONDING

Avior’s metal-to-metal bonding capability includes a fully certified cleanroom for bonding as well as an autoclave for curing and processing. The fabrication of the metal details is located in the same facility and includes machining and profiling of the metal details. The application of an adhesive primer is supported by an approved subcontractor. Following the bonding of the metal details, the assembly is completed with in-house potting of inserts, edge filing, and painting of a primer and topcoat. The final step in the fabrication process is a full array of in-house non-destructive testing to ensure the adhesion of the panels meets customer specifications.

CERTIFIED IN-HOUSE SPECIAL PROCESSES

From welding to heat treatment and more, Avior’s wide range of in-house special processes are Nadcap and customer certified. We are proud to offer a one-stop shop to mitigate risk and reduce costs for our customers.
